Siemens (Hull City of Culture)
As part of the Hull City of Culture 2017, raising awareness of the importance of renewable energy and the new Siemens establishment in Hull, A 250ft-long wind turbine rotor blade was installed in the City’s centre. Dubbed "The Blade", the 28-tonne structure, designed by Nayan Kulkarni and was installed at Hull's Queen Victoria Square.
The Structure was situated for a total of three months and gathered a large amount of interest not only with those local to Hull, but to many from outside of the city too. The Blade was one of the first to be produced at the Siemens factory in Hull.
Pearlgreen Engineering of the Strata Group designed and manufactured the support structures that housed The Blade and also played a key role in the installation and extraction in Hull City Centre.
We completed the extraction within 12 hours. It took a total of 8 engineers and joiners, 1 lifting team, 3 cranes, 3 HIAB lorries and a great amount of passion and teamwork to pull of the feat. Another challenging and enjoyable project we loved being a part of.
