Hull’s first ever golf club, dating back to 1904, may boast over a century of golfing history but its newest business venture is already proving that the club is keeping up with the times.

Hull Golf Club, based in Packman Lane, Kirk Ella, teamed up with Hull-based fit-out firm Ark Interiors to convert an empty outer building at the club into a state-of-the-art virtual golf simulator experience and it’s already paying real dividends for the region’s golfing communit, The Golf Den, a £50,000 cutting edge indoor practice facility which features a golf simulator carrying over 60 courses, is already proving to be a sanctuary for both time served golfers and members of the business community alike.

Designed and fitted out by Ark Interiors, part of Hull-based Strata Holdings group, the den opened in January and features leather chesterfields, ambient lighting, and houses flightscope and SAM Putt lab technology. The ball tracking device actually uses the same technology used by the navy and the putting range features the same technology Rory McIlroy uses to perfect his game, analysing different parameters of a player’s putting stroke.

The Golf Den has been inundated with bookings since it opened at the start of the year and is already being described by key members of the business community as the ideal environment for corporate team building.

It’s just one of many innovative ideas brought to the club by Aaron Pheasant, Hull Golf Club’s Pro and Director of Golf, who arrived in January 2014 and is proud that the club’s memberships have reached such a level that there will soon be a waiting list. Aaron has strong roots at the club, having undertaken his PGA training during his time working at Hull Golf club from 1998 to 2003.

He also recent revamped the club shop and it’s the only golf pr shop in East Yorkshire to stock the Huge Boss pro golf range of clothing.

When Aaron discussed the Golf Den concept with Graham Fisher, Group Chairman of Strata Holdings and also a member at the club, Graham didn’t hesitate to get involved.

One of the businesses within the Strata group, Ark Interiors, is highly regarded for its specialist work in interior refit and fit-out work on office complexes and developments, as well as any interior commercial environment requiring a unique and creative approach, so they were ideally placed to fit out The Golf Den.

“The Golf Den is ideal for those in business who want to play golf as a corporate activity or for team building purposes,” said Graham. “It’s perfect for seasoned golfers wanting to hone their skills, as well as those who don’t necessarily have the skills to go out on the course yet but want to try their hand at golf.”

Strata Holdings Group is rapidly becoming renowned as the region’s first choice when it comes to signage, office fit-out and metals engineering solutions.

Aaron Pheasant said: “Many people who have come to use the golf Den just for a bit of fun or for corporate use have ended up going on to be really interested in actually playing golf already.

“For those who come along for a private tuition session in the Golf Den, we can send them high definition, slow motion video analysis featuring our commentary about their game and some tips for improvement, so that they can watch it on their phone or laptop straight after the session.”

The Golf Den can be utilised for boutique practice sessions, catering for the specific needs of golfers across all abilities. Golfers can book their visit at where they can utilise all the latest coaching equipment, ball tracking technology as well as requesting their favourite golf ball to practice with.
